Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity or apathy that can affect a person's thoughts, feelings, behavior and sense of well-being. Depression is the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide. Antidepressants target one or more of the neurotransmitters which are believed to be involved in regulating mood and ECT also make a drastic change in patients with depressive symptoms. The aim of the study was to assess the level of hope among the depression patients receiving ECT and antidepressants by using Herth Hope Scale. A descriptive study includes 30 patients receiving ECT and antidepressants in psychiatric OPD and in patient department at SMVMCH. The samples were selected on the basis of purposive sampling technique. Data was collected by researcher using Herth Hope Scale and comparison was done between the depression patients receiving ECT and antidepressants by using Herth Hope Scale. The study was conducted among 30 depression patients receiving antidepressants and ECT at SMVMCH. The study revealed that the level of hope among the depression patients receiving ECT is higher than the patients receiving antidepressants by using Herth Hope Scale in psychiatric ward at SMVMCH. In mean and standard deviation of the ECT is (2.93+.285) and antidepressants is (1.87±352).
