Abstract

Schizophrenia was first identified as a discrete mental illness by Dr. Emil Kraepelin in 1887. Schizophrenia is known to have a protracted course with frequent remissions and exacerbations. The study was conducted in the government mental health centre, Trivandrum. Fifty schizophrenic clients were taken. The study was a quasi experimental one, with two groups. One control group with 25 clients and one experimental group with 25 clients. Music therapy was given only to the experimental group. The study findings showed no significant association with demographic variables, music therapy had positive effect on schizophrenia.
