Self-concept is an organized cognition structures comprised of a set of attitudes, beliefs, and values of habits, abilities, outlook, ideas and feelings of a person. Self-concept is distinguishable from self-awareness which refers to the extent to which self-knowledge is defined. This study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of Self-concept Enhancement Program on self-concept among adolescence. A pre experimental one group pre and posttest research design was conducted at selected Nursing College, Chennai with sample size of 38. The samples were collected through convenience sampling technique. ADOLESCENCE SELF CONCEPT SHORT SCALE A VERSION OF PHCSCS [Piers Harries children self-concept scale], Demographic variables proforma of students and demographic variables proforma of Parents were used to collect the data. The mean and SD of overall self-concept in pre-test 113/180 (62%) ± 16.33 and in post-test was 133/180 (73%) ± 13.88. The maximum obtainable mean and SD in pre-test and post-test was in physical appearance with 21.3/30 (71%) ± 3.55 in pre-test and 24.7/30 (82%) ± 2.93 in post-test and calculated “t” value of 5.4876 had statistically significant difference at P< 0.001 level which clearly showed that there was a significant improvement in self-concept after self-concept enhancement program among adolescence. The demographic variables of students like age, sex, religion, place of living and medium of study in school had statistically significant association with the self-concept among adolescence at P <0.50 level. The demographic variables of parents like type of parenthood, education of father, education of mother and family income had statistically significant association with the level self-concept among adolescence at P<0.05 level. The above findings reveal that self-concept enhancement program was effective in improving self-concept among adolescence.
