Abstract

A quasi experimental study was conducted in selected higher secondary school at Puducherry, to assess the effectiveness of self-instructional module on knowledge regarding social phobia among adolescents quantitatively. For the study 60 adolescents was selected through convenient sampling technique. In this study the pre-test level of knowledge on social phobia was assessed using structured knowledge questionnaire on social phobia and the intervention selfinstructional module (SIM) was administered to 60 adolescents. After 6 days, the post test was assessed using the same structured knowledge questionnaire. The results revealed that in the pretest 55% had inadequate knowledge, 41.7% had moderately adequate knowledge and 3.3% had adequate knowledge and in the posttest 23.3% of the adolescents gained moderately adequate knowledge and 76.7% gained adequate knowledge regarding social phobia. Theposttest level of knowledge was found to be higher than the pretest knowledge by 29%, hence the intervention was found to be effective. The overall “t”- value obtained was 22.21 which depict the effectiveness of SIM and p value is less than0.0001 which shows that the hypothesis is accepted. There is no association between level of knowledge and educational status.
