Effectiveness of structured teaching program on knowledge regarding management of side effects of chemotherapy

Cancer is characterized by proliferation of cells that have managed to evade central endogenous control mechanisms.Quantitative research approach and preexperimental one group pre and post test design were adopted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching program on knowledge regarding management of side effects of chemotherapy among care givers from selected hospital, Chennai, were selected by non probability convenient sampling method. Structure interview schedule was used to assess the knowledge regarding management of side effects of chemotherapy..The findings revealed on the pre test 13(43.3%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 17(56.7%) had inadequate knowledge where as in all the post test 11(36.7%) had adequate knowledge and 19(63.3%)had moderately adequately knowledge respectively regarding side effects of chemotherapy.Hence the knowledge gained by the care givers regarding management of side effects of chemotherapy after the structured teaching program by using hand out.
