India is a greying nation, with the growth rate of elderly segment being greater than the growth rate of the population as a whole. The present study aimed to assess the effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation technique on level of stress and quality of sleep among senior citizens atselected old age home in Chennai. A pre experimental one group pre test and post test design was used. Sixty senior citizens were selected using non probability convenient sampling technique. An interview guide that consists of semi-structured items was used to collect demographic data.Modified perceived stress scale to assess the level of stress of senior citizens and Athens insomnia scale to assess the quality of sleep among senior citizens.The study findings revealed that the comparison of mean scores of stress and quality of sleep revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between pre & post test scores of samples at 1% level of significance. The study findings gave an insight to the investigator about the effectiveness of PMRT on stress and sleep problems of senior citizens.PMRT can be educated and practiced as a non pharmacological measure for relaxation on regular basis.
