Abstract

Nurses themselves also need to take personal responsibility for career development. Greater support for nurses’ career planning and personal drive will help organizations to plan their future workforce needs.

1. To assess the professional & career progression among post-graduate alumni in Medical Surgical Nursing. 2. To determine the association between satisfaction of professional and career progression and working area of PG alumni in Medical Surgical Nursing.

The present study was conducted using descriptive correlational research design among 66 PG alumni in Medical Surgical nursing who met the inclusion criteria and were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The data was collected by self-administration method using the predetermined and validated tools such as background variables proforma and academic variables proforma in Google forms through whatsapp and Emails, after obtaining the informed consent. Collected data was analyzed using appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics in SPSS-20.

There was statistically significant difference in satisfaction of professional and career progression between alumni working in clinical setup and academic set up (t=1.848) (p<0.05). The satisfaction scores were higher among the alumni working in academic set up (M=51.43, SD=28.55) than in clinical set up (M=48.16,SD=67.49).

Study findings shows that there is good record of academic and professional achievement, which reflects the fact that, higher studies in medical surgical nursing is highly rewarding and satisfying.
