Human monkey pox (MPX), a zoonotic infectious disease caused by the monkey pox virus (MPXV) of the genus Ortho poxvirus, causes smallpox-like symptoms in humans. To date, there are limited that have investigated about the prevalence of monkey pox among the general public. This study was to investigate the prevalence of knowledge about monkey pox virus among general public in selected areas at Puducherry. A descriptive study was carried out using direct interview among 50 general public using the self-structured questionnaire developed by the researchers. The present study assessed the knowledge level of the general public regarding Monkey pox and found that 17(34%) of general public had moderately adequate knowledge 33(66%) of them had an inadequate knowledge and there is no adequate knowledge among general public. The chi - square value reveals that the level of knowledge is highly significant to the demographic variables like gender (p=0.001) and residential area.
