Abstract

Data on the knowledge and attitudes of students towards blood donation are scanty. Since this group is a potential but under-utilized source of blood donors, studying their knowledge attitudes could provide insights. The knowledge and attitudes towards blood donation of 400 students were studied using a structure questionnaire, 5 point likert scale. The study revealed that 324(81%) had inadequate knowledge and 76(19%) had moderately adequate knowledge. Regarding the attitude 44(11%) students had moderately favourable attitude, about 291 (73%) students had neither favourable nor unfavourable attitude and 65(16%) students had moderately favourable attitude. Most of the students had inadequate knowledge with neither favourable nor unfavourable attitude. In a student population, donors and non-donors do not differ significantly in their attitudes towards blood donation.
