Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is reaching potentially epidemic proportions in India. A correlation study was conducted to assess the body mass index, waist hip ratio and blood sugar level among 60 patients with diabetes mellitus at SVMCH & RC, Puducherry. The findings of the study revealed that most of the patients, 41(68.3%) had normal weight, 14(23.3%) had over weight and 5(8.3%) were obese. The Correlation between the body mass index, waist hip ratio and blood sugar level among the patients with diabetes mellitus indicated that there was a moderate correlation found with r value 0.6 between the BMI, WHR and blood glucose level.
