Abstract

Clinical deterioration can occur at any stage of a patient's illness, although there will be certain periods during which a patient is more vulnerable. The present study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of sensitizing program on MEWS among the students studying in selected College of Nursing at Chennai. A pre experimental design was adopted among 100 students who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were selected through purposive sampling. The pre-test level of knowledge was assessed using a semi structured questionnaire and the sensitization programme was given to students followed by post-test was conducted. The results showed that the mean level of knowledge was 13 with standard deviation of 9.43 in pre-test and 26 with standard deviation of 21.2 in post-test. There was a statistically significant difference with paired ‘t ’value of 3.41 at p<0.05 level. Thus sensitization programme on MEWS was effective among nursing students and the periods of vulnerability can be identified at the onset of illness, during surgical or medical interventions and during recovery from critical illness.
