Quality of life among wives of juvenile diabetics

Abstract

Any potentially life-threatening condition has some psychological impact, and that of diabetes is profound. The family members especially wives of patients with diabetes often experience unresolved grief which may lead to family dysfunction The objective of the study was to assess the quality of life among wives of juvenile diabetics and associate with demographic variables. A descriptive study using purposive sampling technique was used to collect data from 60 wives of Juvenile Diabetics and WHOQOL-26 was used to collect data at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai. The study findings revealed that 75% of them had moderate quality of life and 10% of them had poor quality of life. It also showed that the mean and standard deviation of social relationship is relatively low at p < 0.01 compared with other domains of quality of life. The age of diagnosis as Juvenile Diabetic had significant association with quality of life.
