Abstract

The current nursing shortage and high turnover is of great concern in many countries because of its impact upon the efficiency and effectiveness of any healthcare delivery system. Several studies have shown a close relationship between workplace environment and job satisfaction. This study aims to assess the workplace satisfaction of nurses working in CMC hospital Vellore. Using Simple random sampling 40 nurses were recruited for the study. Data was collected using self-administered workplace satisfaction questionnaire. Analysis revealed that 77.5% were moderately satisfied with the workplace while 22.5% were dissatisfied. There was no significant relationship between workplace satisfaction with selected demographic variables like; age, gender, education, marital status, place of education and years of experience. The findings revealedthat the majority of the subjects were moderately satisfied with the workplace. Therefore, it is recommended that the factors are assessed for the cause of the same and appropriate measures such as a pat on the back for the good work done to bigger things such as promotions, hike in pay etc. Working relationships, support of management, and supervision should be emphasized for better nursing future.
