Abstract

Background: Cardiovascular disease is the world's leading killer, accounting for16.7 million or 29.2% of total global deaths. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a surgical procedure performed to relieve angina and reduce the risk of death from coronary artery disease. Novel walking is considered as a suitable method to objectively assess the level of functional status. It is an easy and inexpensive way to evaluate physical function of an individual and reflects the ability to undertake day to day activities. Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of novel walking upon post operative outcomes among post CABG patients Methodology: An experimental study was conducted among post CABG patients to assess the effectiveness of novel walking for improving the post-operative outcomes. Totally 70 patients were selected as participants out of which (n=35) is constituted to experimental group and (n=35) was constituted to control group. Systematic random sampling technique was used to recruitsamples from the selected hospitals. Post operative outcome like Spo2 after surgery on the third post operative day was assessed in both groups. Novel walking was performed by the investigator in the experimental group of patients. Post-test was done on the seventh POD. Results: Post-operative CABG patients in the control group had high risk of hypoxemia (71.43%, 77.14%) in the pre-test and post-test. On the other hand, most of experimental group of CABG patients (71.43%,) had high risk of hypoxemia before walking and normal SpO2 after walking (94.29%). Conclusion: The present study reveals that Novel walking is considered as a suitable method to objectively assess the level of functional status among post CABG patients.
