Abstract

Abstract: Surgical care is a fundamental part of healthcare around the globe. Patient safety is the avoidance of unintended or unexpected harm to the patients during the delivery of healthcare. It is a significant issue within healthcare delivery systems worldwide. The study was aimed to assess the level of knowledge on patient safety in the operation theatre among operating room nurses. Methods: A Non-experimental descriptive design was adopted for this study. Totally 80 samples were selected for the study by purposive sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge regarding patient safety in the operation theatre among operating room nurses. Results: Study findings revealed that majority of the operation room nurses belonged to the age group of 2125 years (59%), bachelorette nurses and females (81.25 %), had 1-3 years of total experience (56.25%) and 1-3 years of experience (61.25%) in operation theatre. More than half of the operation room nurses (55%) had moderately adequate level of knowledge and 37.5 % of them had adequate knowledge on patient safety in the operation theatre among operation room nurses. The Mean and Standard Deviation of level of knowledge on patient safety in the operation theatre among operation room nurses was (M=23.53, SD±12.028).Conclusion: Majority of the nurses who were working in the operation theatre had moderately adequate level of knowledge due to the years of experience and their exposure to the specific conditions and by Continuing Nursing Education.
