Background: Hospital Acquired Infection is one of the frequent infections among ICU patients, associated with an increase in days of ICU stay, morbidity and mortality. Nurses have different vital roles in preventing Hospital Acquired Infection. Aims: This study was done to find the effectiveness of a comprehensive training program regarding hospital acquired infection control on knowledge and practice among ICU nurses. Materials and methods: A pre experimental study was carried out among 70 ICU nurses selected by purposive sampling technique. The pretest consists of collecting the demographic variables, the level of knowledge and practice regarding Hospital Acquired Infection Control using structured knowledge questionnaire and observation checklist. The Comprehensive Training Program regarding Hospital Acquired Infection Control was provided to the group for 2 hours/day. Then posttest knowledge and practice was assessed after 7 days of training Program. The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results:There was significant improvement in the mean and standard deviation of posttest knowledge and practice scores (25.57 &2.66 , 43.68 &4.67) than the pretest scores (17.51& SD=3.42, 40.43 &2.95) respectively at p<0.001among ICU nurses in Tamil Nadu. Similarly the mean and standard deviation of the posttest knowledgeand practice scores were higher (23.91&2.52, 33.86 &4.45) than their pretest score (16.06 &2.51, 22.40 &1.35) at p<0.001among ICU nurses in Assam. Conclusion: Hence the study showed that the comprehensive training program was effective in improving the knowledge and practice of nurses regarding hospital acquired infection control.
