Effectiveness of self-soothing exercise on anxiety among nurses working in selected hospital at Chennai

Abstract

Nursing is a profession that requires tremendous levels of focus, energy, and responsibility-making nurses more prone to anxiety and depression. Nowadays Nurses often feel that they are always under pressure and making the work environment tense. A Pre experimental one group pretest posttest research design was adopted for the study and 30 staff nurses were selected using simple random sampling technique. Zung S elf rating anxiety scale was used to assess the level of anxiety among nurses and self soothing exercise was demonstrated to the nurses for about 30 minutes which was followed by the posttest. The study findings showed that the pretest mean anxiety score was 28.33 with standard deviation of 3.217 and posttest mean anxietyscore was 17.3 with standard deviation of 3.825. The paired ‘t’ value was 19.53*** which revealed that there was a highly statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest level of anxiety at p<0.001.
