Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the major respiratory diseases affecting many in India. Dyspnea in patients with COPD is common which is subjectively experienced by the patient. A quasi experimental pre-test post-test control up design was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of balloon blowing exercise on respiratory status among 30 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by using purposive sampling technique. Observation technique, Modified Borg's Dyspnea Scale and Incentive spirometry was used to assess the respiratory rate, level of dyspnea and lung capacity respectively. Balloon blowing exercise was implemented using 90/90 hemibridge with ball and balloon position for 10-15 minutes three times a day for 5 Consecutive days. The paired t test showed highly significant (t=12.5) for respiratory rate, level of dyspnea (t=6.7)and lung capacity (t=8.2).The independent t test value showed significant difference in respiratory rate(t=5.8),level of dyspnea (t=4.2) and lung capacity(t=6.9) in posttest respiratory status. It revealed that balloon blowing exercise was effective in improving the respiratory status and quality of life.
