As new Nurses need more leadership skills to manage the health care system, to meet the growing demand for health care and to fulfil the shortage in nursing leaders, an increase in the number of Nurses enrolled in the baccalaureate program becomes a necessity.
A descriptive study was conducted to assess the Authentic leadership skills among final year B.Sc Nursing students. Forty eight samples were selected by Non probability convenience sampling technique. The data was collected using a standardized questionnaire on authentic leadership skill by Donald Clark (2014). Data was analyzed using Descriptive and Inferential Statistics.
Mean and standard deviation of overall Authentic Leadership skills was 80/100 (80%) ± 10.01.Mean and SD of components of Authentic leadership skills like Purpose and passion were 16.04(80.2%) ± 1.76,values and behaviour were 16.16(80.8%) ± 2.74, heart and compassionwere16.56(82.8%) ± 2.71, relationships and connectedness were 16.27(81.35%) ± 2.31 ,self-discipline and consistency 15.41(77.05%) were ± 2.44. Authentic leadership skills had shown statistically significant association with the Nursing student religion, type of family, father's occupation, mother's occupation and family income per month.
Thereby the investigator concludes that the Final year B.Sc nursing students had adequate authentic leadership skills especially in heart and compassion dimension.
