The comprehension and interest of Medical Surgical Nursing (MSN), a crucial subject for nursing students to learn from fundamental to complicated human disease, must be instilled. The educational strategy for teaching MSN should be student-centered rather than teacher-centered and should primarily involve the students in actively participating in the study of the subject in a clear, succinct manner with full comprehension.
The Pre-experimental study was carried out among 80 BSc Nursing students by applying convenience sample technique with the aim of enhancing nursing students’ learning behavior and to generate interest in medical surgical nursing using mind mapping (MM). The Modified C.I. T. E. Learning Styles Inventory, a questionnaire about mind mapping, and an interest assessment tool were the instruments utilized to gather the data. Perioperative nursing care was pre- and post-assessed using the following methods: MCQs, Short Answers, and Match the following. The students’ responses were assessed. Once the pre-assessment intervention on mind mapping perioperative nursing care was taught and put into practice.
The mean posttest level of learning ability is significantly higher than the pretest level. There is a significant difference between pre and posttest level of Competency at P < 0.001.After MM technique used, majority of the student showed increased interest on MSN. Usage of mind mapping questionnaires indicated students were satisfied to adopt MM.
According to this study, MM is unquestionably advantageous for nursing students. Since it automatically transforms into the mental image that helps people recall information more readily. They just become more efficient and productive, which improves performance. If so, they will excel in the future when they practice their vocation.
