Abstract

Education involves both the act of teaching knowledge to others and the act of receiving knowledge from someone else. The lecture method is the oldest form of teaching and involves explaining topics to students, often in a teacher-centered manner. Mind mapping is another effective teaching method, particularly useful for note-taking and brainstorming essay topics. The aim of this study was to assess and compare the effectiveness of mind mapping and lecture methods on learning. A quantitative research approach and non-probability convenient sampling technique were used to collect data. A structured questionnaire was administered, and data were collected through the interview method. In the lecture method group, the majority (92%) of students had moderately adequate knowledge, while only 8% had adequate knowledge. In contrast, in the mind mapping group, 76% had moderately adequate knowledge and 24% had adequate knowledge. The findings suggest that while both methods help students achieve moderately adequate knowledge, mind mapping may be more effective in enhancing the level of adequate knowledge among students compared to traditional lecture methods.
