Knowledge and attitude of higher secondary school teachers regarding nursing profession at selected higher secondary school, Perambalur

Abstract

This study sought to assess the knowledge and attitude of higher secondary school teachers towards nursing profession and to find the association between knowledge and attitude towards nursing profession with selected demographic variables. It is also to find out the co-relationship between knowledge and attitude towards nursing profession.

The study design is Descriptive survey design and setting is at selected higher secondary school, Perambalur. Purposive sampling technique is used with sample size: 60. The tool consists of part-A socio demographic data, part-B knowledge questionnaire and part-C Attitude questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics.

Majority (80%) had good knowledge about nursing profession and half of them (50%) had moderate attitude towards nursing profession. The mean knowledge score of higher secondary school teachers regarding nursing profession was 12 and mean attitude score was 6.2. There was a significant positive correlation between knowledge and attitude among higher secondary school teachers. (r = 0.553) significant at (p < 0.001) level.

Teachers are the channels and guide the students in career selection. So if the knowledge and attitude of higher secondary school teachers are improved toward nursing profession many of the students will choose nursing as their profession.
