Abstract

Nurses play vital role in saving lives during emergency situation in the hospital. Nurses need to empower themselves to perform effectively during hospital emergency codes.

To assess the level of knowledge of Nursing students on Hospital Emergency Codes andto find out the association between knowledge of nursing students on hospital emergency codes and their academic performance.

The study was conducted at a selected college of nursing in Chennai using descriptive survey design and using purposive sampling techniques 95 students studying in B. Sc nursing II year were selected for the study. Structured questionnaire to assess the knowledge of students on hospital emergency codes such as Code blue, Code red, Code orange, Code pink, Code brown was used to collect the data.

The study findings revealed that 37.8% of the students had good knowledge and 6.31% of them had excellent knowledge regarding hospital emergency codes. There was no significant association between the academic performance and the knowledge level students on Hospital Emergency Codes. Conclusion: Nursing students are in need of hands on training to empower themselves to manage the emergency code management in hospitals.
