Abstract

An interventional study was carried out to assess the learning styles and to enhance learning abilities among B. Sc. Nursing students. The research design selected for the study was a Pretest posttest with control group design. A sample of 94 B. Sc. Nursing students were selected randomly for experimental and control group. The learning style inventory was used to assess learning styles and the learning abilities of nursing students were assessed using a questionnaire which contained items related to the study habits, memory techniques and assertiveness training. A pretest was conducted for both the experimental and the control group after which, the students in experimental group were subjected to learning ability intervention module for a period of two weeks. Post test was conducted for both groups, two weeks after the intervention. The collected data were analyzed using ‘t ’test. It was identified that, there was a significant difference between the pre and post test scores among the experimental group. The calculated ‘t ’value (5.987) was greater than the table value (3.37) at 0.001 level of significance. Analysis on the enhancement of learning ability intervention module between experimental and control group showed that, the calculated ‘t ’value (0.0016) was lesser than the table value (3.37) which revealed that there was no significant difference between the post test scores among experimental and control group. Therefore it was concluded that, learning ability module can be employed to enhance learning ability of nursing students.
