Abstract

The Objective of the Study was to assess the perception of instructor caring among nursing students. The research approach was quantitative and the research design adopted was descriptive research design. The researcher used simple non probability purposive sampling technique and selected 150 BSc Nursing students for the study. The researcher used a standardized tool: the nursing student's perception of instructor caring (NSPIC), which consisted of five demographic variables and 30 statements for assessing the perception of instructor caring. The results revealed that Regarding the perception of instructor caring, 13 (8.7%) students had poor perception, 68 (45.3%) students had better perception and 69(46.0%) students had good perception. Considering the association of level of perception of the students with the demographic variables, age showed significant association (x2 =12.52p=0.05) and year of study also showed significant association (x2 =14.41p=0.05). Hence the perception of instructor caring among nursing students can be enhanced through compassion, competence, conscience, confidence and commitment among instructors working in the clinical area.
