Abstract

Undoubtedly delivery is a painful experience for all of the women except a few of them. The labor pain results from some physiological-psychological causes. If the woman looks at the pain with a psychological view her feeling toward it would be changed. The aim of the study is to assess the level of maternal outcomes among primigravida mothers in both control and experimental group after selected nursing intervention. Methods: Evaluation approach with true experimental where posttest only with control group design. The sample of the present study was primigravida mother who were fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected through Random Sampling technique. The sample size for the study consists of 30 primigravida mother (15 control and 15 experimental). The data was collected by visual Analogue scale, maternal outcomes observational rating scale and Stress assessment scale to assess the maternal outcomes at the end of labour in both the groups, the data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings: The post test scores of pain perception among primi mother during latent phase of control group the mean score 7.20±1.95 and in experimental group mean score was 5.91±1.28. During active phase the pain perception in control group the mean score is 6.94±2.06 whereas in experimental group the mean score 5.07±1.66. In the transition phase mean score is 7.2±2.08 in control group and the mean score 5.09±1.61 were in experimental group. The maternal outcome during labour post test mean score is 35.8±1.91 in control group whereas in experimental group the mean score is 24.4±2.01. It seems that the maternal outcome during labour was good and the interventions were more effective in experimental group. Unpaired't' test calculated to determine the effectiveness of selected nursing intervention on maternal outcome among primi mothers in both the control and experimental group. The maternal parameters during labour shows that there is a significant difference between control null hypothesis is rejected the research hypothesis is accepted. Hence it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the post test score of labour pain among primi mothers. Conclusion: During labour and birth, nurse can use a variety of Non-Pharmacological Methods for pain relief while providing support and encouragement to the laboring women, non-pharmacological measures are often simple and safe. Non pharmacological methods of pain relief also allow the normal course of labour to progress more effectively.
