Abstract

The present study entitled, “A study to assess the effects of selected Nursing intervention on knowledge, home care practice and selected maternal & fetal parameters among pregnant women with oligohydramnios at KMCH, Coimbatore”.

The main objective of the present study was to assess the knowledge and homecare practices, determine the effectiveness of structured teaching programme, evaluate the nursing intervention on selected maternal and fetal parameters of pregnant women with oligohydramnios.

The quasi-experimental pre-test and post test design.

Non probability purposive sampling technique. Tool for data collection: Structured self-administered questionnaire to assess the knowledge, checklist to assess the home care practice and booklet on homecare management of oligohydramnios.

one to one structured patient education on oligohydramnios, its management and home care practices followed by booklet containing home care management aspects were given to the mother. Demonstration of maintaining kick count chart.

The paired ‘t’ value for the mean difference pre and posttest knowledge score of pregnant women with oligohydramnios which is statistically significant at p<0.05; practice checklist score of pregnant women with oligohydramnios which is statistically significant at p< 0.05. The pre and post-test AFI is statistically significant at < 0.05. The mean pre and post-test abdomen girth pregnant women with oligohydramnios which is statistically significant at < 0.05. The association of post-test knowledge shows there was significant between type of food intake and association of posttest practice score shows that there was significant association between type of marriage, previous source of information and type of food intake.

The study concluded after teaching programme there were a marked difference between the knowledge, practice score among pregnant women with oligohydramnios. The study highlights that as a professional we have to conduct this kind of teaching programme to ensure the healthy pregnancy.
