Effectiveness of video teaching programme on knowledge of self-help techniques among primi gravida mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus at selected hospitals, Salem

A study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Video Teaching Programme on Knowledge of Self-Help Techniques among primigravida mothers with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in selected Hospitals, Salem. A pre - experimental, one group pre-test and post-test only design was adopted. Purposive sampling techniques was used to select 50 primigravida mothers GDM. Pre-test was done by using Structured Interview Schedule to assess the knowledge on Self-Help Techniqueson Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. On the same day, Video Teaching Programme on knowledge on Self-Help Techniques on GDM was shown to mothers. The result showed that in pre-test, majority of the mothers had average knowledge (72%), whereas in post-test 82% of the mothers had good knowledge on GDM. The overall mean knowledge score in pre-test was 12.3±5.3 whereas in post-test, the mean knowledge improved to 23.5±4.86 and mean percentage was 78.32% (p≤0.05). There was no significant association found between knowledge scores with demographic variables.
