A study to assess the levels of knowledge regarding emergency contraception among married women at selected hospitals, Vellore (dist), Tamilnadu

Emergency contraception is the contraception on demand which can prevent lacks of unwanted pregnancies. All women were at risk of an unintended pregnancy have a right to access emergency contraception. The aim of the study is to assess the knowledge regarding emergency contraception among married women at selected hospitals, Vellore.

The research approach adopted for the study was descriptive approach, the design was descriptive design, nonprobability purposive sampling technique was adopted. The tool for the study had a questionnaire related to knowledge on emergency contraception The data were analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics.

The result of the study revealed that 18 (36%) of married women were having inadequate, 27 (54%) were having moderate and 5 (10%) were having adequate knowledge. The overall mean score was 11.46 with standard deviation 2.486. The area of living, previous knowledge and experience, had significant association.

Emergency Contraception, is the contraception of demand and thatthe level of knowledge regarding emergency contraception among married women were moderate.
