Abstract

Breast self-examination is the screening technique for early detection of breast cancer. Women examine the breast regularly to detect any abnormal swelling or lumps to prompt medical attention. The present study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding breast selfexamination among adolescent girls. A Quantitative research approach, pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test design was used. The samples of the study comprised of 60 Bachelor of Nursing students in Venkateswara Nursing College and were selected using non-probability convenience sampling technique for the study. Structured questionnaire was used to assess the level of knowledge on breast self-examination. The questionnaire consisted of 20 items. Post-test was conducted after one week of planned teaching programme with same questionnaire and results were compared. The pre-test mean knowledge score was12.15 and post-test mean was16.47. The data showed that there was significant improvement in the knowledge level on breast self-examination after planned teaching programme.
