Abstract

Reproductive rights entail essential freedom such as accessing reproductive health services, making informed contraceptive choices, and deciding on family planning and pregnancy matters. Despite international recognition, there remains a notable need to bridge gaps in understanding and applying these rights, especially among women at the grassroot level. An exploratory study conducted in Chennai sought to gauge women’s awareness of reproductive rights. Using a quantitative-evaluative approach with an explorative descriptive research design, the study sampled fifty participants through non-probability convenience sampling. Findings unveiled that 70% of participants had moderate awareness, 16% had inadequate awareness, and 14% had adequate awareness regarding reproductive rights. While most participants demonstrated awareness of reproductive health, familiarity with the term "reproductive rights" was limited, with mass media serving as the primary source of information.
