Abstract

Breast milk is the ideal food for newborns because of its unique nutritional properties. Therefore, it is appropriate for every baby to get exclusive breastfeeding until the age of 6 months. To make this happen, the baby’s mother must try to increase the volume and quality of her breast milk. These efforts must be supported by providing appropriate nutritional intake for breastfeeding mothers. Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of almond powder with milk on breast milk volume. Methods: Pre experimental research design with one group pre test and post test was used. 30 post natal mothers were selected using purposive sampling and almond powder with milk regularly taken 2 times a day for 10 days is effective in increasing the volume of breast milk Self structured questionnaire was used to assess the feeding adequacy. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Result: Significant increase in the volume of breast milk before and after the intervention was found p< 0.05. Conclusion: Intake of almond powder was found to be effective in increasing breast milk secretion.
