Abstract

A Girl may experience her first menstrual period between the ages of 9 to 14. Menstrual hygiene and management can be essential in ensuring that our everyday life is not interrupted by menstruation. It ensures that you can continue with yourdaily routine such as going to school, going to workordoinghouseholdchores.lt can also prevent potential situations of embarrassment and in turn, make you feel confident about our self and our body. In this sense, maintaining proper menstrual hygiene is important for our wellbeing and development. A comparative Study to assess the Level of Awareness and Modular Practices on Menstrual Hygiene among Adolescent Girls at selected Government and Private Schools, Chennai. This research study mainly compared the Level of Awareness and Practices on Menstrual Hygiene among Adolescent in 7" std and 8" std between Government School and Private School. 81 adolescent girls were chosen by Purposive Sampling Technique. The outcome of the Study shows that 7th Std Adolescent girls studying in U.C.C.K School are having more Knowledge (67%) Compared to Govtschool(51%). But 8th Std Adolescent girls are having more Knowledge in Govt School (69%) Compared to U.C.C.K School (58%). With respect to Practice Component, Govt School students scored higher (82%) compared to UCCK School (75%), but In 8" Std more in U.C.C.K School (79%) compared to Govt. School. Menstrual hygiene is a ‘red alert ’situation. This Research study brought out the importance of Menstrual Hygiene as a vital component forthe health of Adolescent girls and the role of education from adolescent period to prevent reproductive Infection. Hence, distribution of Pamphlet regarding Menstrual Hygiene to Adolescent girls at Govt School and U.C.C.K School was initiated.
