Assessment of effectiveness of infra red therapy on episiotomy pain perception among postnatal mothers

A Quantitative approach, true experimental pre test and post test control group design was chosen to assess the effectiveness of infra red therapy on episiotomy pain perception among postnatal mothers at Government Rajaji Hospital Madurai. 60 postnatal mothers were selected by simple random sampling and lottery method was used to divide the group as experimental and control. The pre test level of episiotomy pain was assessed by using the numerical pain scale and the level of episiotomy pain perception among post natal mothers in both groups were perceived severe. Infra red therapy 245 volts 10 minutes, twice a day for 3 days was given to experimental group. Control and experimental groups post test pain perception mean difference was 5.43. The Unpaired test ‘t ’value was 18.6 which was highly significant at P < 0.001 level. There was no significant association between pre and post test level of episiotomy pain perception with selected demographic variables. Post natal mother episiotomy pain who underwent Infra red therapy had a statistically significant reduction in pain perception.
