Perceived competency and self confidence regarding basic knowledge and skills in midwifery practice among final year nursing students

The midwife has an important task in health counseling and education, not only for the woman, but also within the family and community. This work should involve antenatal education and preparation for parenthood and may extend to women's health, sexual or reproductive health and child care. This study was conducted to determine the perceived competency and self confidence regarding basic knowledge and skills in midwifery practice among Nursing students. An descriptive research design is adopted with 30 final year nursing students. Modified Monitoring midwifery competency tool was used to determine the competency and self confidence. The results revealed that there is a moderately positive correlation exists between perceived level of competency and self confidence regarding basic knowledge and skills in midwifery practice among final year B.sc nursing students.
