A quantitative approach, quasi experimental non equivalent pretest posttest with control group design aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of selected Lamaze breathing technique on reduction of pain perception during first stage of labour among primi gravida women at Kongunadu hospital, Coimbatore.60 antenatal women were selected by non probability purposive sampling technique was used to divide the group as experimental and control. The pretest level of labour pain was assessed by using numerical pain intensity rating scale and the level of labour pain among primigravida women during first stage of labour were perceived moderate. A selected Lamaze breathing technique was instructed to practice during five consecutive contraction till contraction ceased to experimental group. The experimental and control group post test level of labour pain perception mean difference was 1.3. Unpaired “t ” value was 10.8which was highly significantly at p.< 0.01 level. There was a significant association found between the post level of pain and the demographic variables and obstetric variables such as age (2=16.93), occupational status(2=16.57) and duration of marriage (2=6.62), and nature of conception(2=15.16). It was evident that selected Lamaze breathing technique was effective in reducing the level of pain perception among primi gravida woman during first stage of labour.
