Abstract

Episiotomy a simple surgical procedure during child birth results in severe pain and other complications in postnatal period. The aim of this study was to reduce pain and improve wound healing pattern by dry cold application on episiotomy wound. An evaluative approach quasi experimental two group pretest posttest design was adopted for this study. Six point categoric scale used to assess pain and modified REEDA scale used to assess the wound healing pattern. Content validity of the tool obtained from experts and found to be reliable and feasible during pilot study. Dry cold application was given only to the experimental group mothers after delivery within 2 to 6 hrs on second, third, fourth and fifth days. The major findings of the study were, in experimental group regarding pain score it was highly significant at the level of P<0.001 in all days. Regarding wound healing pattern in experimental group significant deference found in the aspects of redress, edema, type of discharge amount of discharge and approximation at the level of P<0.001 and P<0.01 respectively. In experimental group there was a significant, substantial negative correlation with r value of 0.65 at the level of P<0.001 in which pain score decreases and wound healing pattern increases.
