The present study evaluated the ‘ ’Relation of perinatal outcome with normal AFI and abnormal AFI among Parturients in Labour room of Tiruvalla Medical Mission Hospital, Thiruvalla ’ ’. The objectives of the study were 1) to find out the maternal outcome in normal AFI and abnormal AFI, 2) to find out the fetal outcome in normal AFI and abnormal AFI 3) to correlate the maternal outcome with normal AFI and abnormal AFI, 4) to correlate the fetal outcome with normal AFI and abnormal AFI. The study approach was quantitative and design used was Correlational design. Purposive sampling was used to select 30 Parturients with Normal AFI and 30 Parturients with abnormal AFI who met the sample selection criteria. The study findings showed that in maternal outcome there was a significant relation between amniotic fluid index and FHS 1st stage (r = 0.96), maternal distress 2nd stage(r =0.45), mode of delivery(r =0.2), 3rd stage duration(0.77). In the fetal outcome there was a significant relation between amniotic fluid index and Apgar Score(r = 0.1), respiratory distress (r =0.20), preterm delivery(r = 1), baby weight(r = 0.52). The study concluded that the AFI values have significant relation with perinatal outcome.
