Effectiveness of simulation based training program on knowledge regarding essential obstetric and newborn care among midwives in tertiary care setting, Coimbatore

Midwives play an important role in improving maternal and neonatal health and survival. Adequate knowledge and training of midwives will enhance the effectiveness of MCH care. A quantitative study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation based training program on knowledge regarding Essential Obstetric Care and Newborn care among Midwives. By using purposive sampling technique samples were selected and Pretest & posttest level of knowledge was assessed by using structured questionnaire before and after the simulation based training program. In the pretest, mean knowledge score was 18.37 ± 5.42 whereas in posttest mean knowledge score was 28.9 ± 5.67 with ‘t’ value of 19.21 which is significant at p<0.05. Simulation based training was effective in improving the knowledge of midwives on essential Obstetric and Newborn care among Midwives.
