Women experience a wide range of pain in labour and exhibit a wide range of response to it. There are various non pharmacological methods to relieve the pain during the labour.
A quasi experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Lamaze breathing technique on labour pain among intranatal mothers at Our Lady of Health hospital, Thanjavur. The data was collected through face to face interview and numerical pain scale. The data was analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics.
The result showed that, in experimental group the paired ‘t’ test (CV=5.8and TV=2.26) was significant than control group (CV=0.24and TV =2.26) and unpaired ‘t’ test value (CV=7.056 and TV =2.10) was also significant at 0.05 level.
The given Lamaze breathing was effective in experimental group. This technique can be recommended in midwifery practices in reducing labour pain.
