Abstract

Menopause is a unique stage of female reproductive life cycle The study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of soya protein consumption on the menopausal symptoms among women in selected rural areas at Karur.

The research approach was quasi experimental - non-equivalent control group design. Menopausal women were selected by using purposive sampling technique and a total of 60 women were included in the study. 60 grams of soya bean given daily for 4 weeks. Pre-test and post test was conducted for the both groups using the same Heinemann Menopausal Rating Scale on first day of the intervention and first day of the 5th week respectively.

Results showed that the post-test mean level of Menopausal symptoms among women in experimental group was 5.8 with the standard deviation of 0.65, the control group post-test mean was 6.87, standard deviation of 1.20 and calculated t’ value was 4.86, was found to be statistically significant at P< 0.001 level and can be attributed to effectiveness of soya protein consumption.

Thus the menopausal women who were consuming soya protein 60 grams daily will experience moderate and much lesser menopausal symptoms than others.
