Effectiveness of audio drama and touch and feel technique on breast self-examination upon knowledge and practice among visually challenged girls

Breast Self-Examination is a simple, very low cost, non-invasive examination of both breast using finger pads with firm pressure to check the breast and surrounding area to detect any breast changes or problems. This study aimed at assessing the effectiveness of audio drama, touch and feel technique on Breast Self-Examination upon knowledge and practice among visually challenged girls.

Pre experimental one group Pre-test Post-test research design was used. 40 visually challenged girls were selected using purposive sampling technique. Data was collected using tools such as Proforma to collect the baseline characteristics of the visually challenged girls, Structured Questionnaire to assess the knowledge and Observational Check List to assess the Practice on Breast Self-Examination.

The Post-test knowledge scores on Breast Self-examination (M = 15.82, SD = 1.59) was higher than the Pre-test knowledge scores (M = 8.15, SD =1.81) which was significant at p<0.0001 level. The Post-test practice score on Breast Self-examination (M =18.17, SD = 2.53) was higher than the Pre-test practice score (M = 6, SD = 1.74) which was significant at p<0.0001.

Visually challenged girls are more vulnerable. They need to be more aware of Breast Self Examination as like normal girls. The Audio drama, touch and feel technique was effective in improving the knowledge and practice on Breast Self-Examination among visually challenged girls.
