To assess and compare the effectivenessof manual expression of breast milk versus cabbage leaves application on reduction of breast engorgement among primi mothers.
This was an experimental comparative research study conducted in the postnatal ward of the selected hospital, Coimbatore. The study comprised a total of 60 mothers; 30 in the experimental group I and 30 in the experimental group II. The experimental group I received manual expression of breast milk and the experimental group II received cabbage leaves application treatment for relieving breast engorgement. An observational checklist was used to assess the level of breast engorgement. The pre-and post test treatment scores of breast engorgement were recorded. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods using the statistical software STRATA.
The obtained “t” value in experimental group I was 37.52 which is highly significant compared to experimental group II (t=10).
The study revealed that there is a significant difference between manual expressions of breast milk versus cabbage leaves application. Manually expression of breast milk is more effective than the cabbage leaves application on the basis of the finding of the study.
