Abstract

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer of the female reproductive system. It accounts for 6% of all cancer in women; about 12,800 cases had been diagnosed as cervical cancer every year. Cervical cancer is mainly caused by sexually transmitted human papilloma virus, which is the most common viral infection of the female reproductive tract. Knowledge of prevention of cervical cancer aimed at enhancing the utilization of skilled in practices. A study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of health education intervention programme on knowledge regarding prevention of cervical cancer among reproductive age group women in tribal community at Tiruvannamalai. The study was conducted by adopting a pre experimental one group pre-test post-test design. Thirty reproductive age group women in selected tribal area, who fulfilled the inclusion criteria, were selected by purposive sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was asked in interview method to the reproductive age group women to assess the pre-test level of knowledge on prevention of cervical cancer. Analysis revealed that the paired't' test value of 19.9 was highly significant at the level of p<0.05, and paired 't'value of 32.84 was highly significant at the level of p<0.05. Thus, it indicates the effectiveness of health education intervention programme on level of knowledge regarding prevention of cervical cancer among reproductive age group women in selected tribal area.
