Abstract

Motherhood is an important stage in every woman's life. During pregnancy, it is important to eat foods that provide all of the nutrients required for the increased needs for mothers and babies. Descriptive design with cross sectional survey approach was used to assess the knowledge regarding diet during pregnancy among primigravida mothers in Maternal and Child Health Centre, Annathanappatti, Salem. Hundred primigravida mothers were selected by purposive sampling technique and data was collected by using structured interview schedule. Area wise distribution of mean, SD and mean percentage of knowledge scores on diet during pregnancy among primigravida mothers shows that the highest mean score (2.99 ± 1.43) which is 50% was obtained for the area of diet. Overall mean score (21 ± 2.77) which is 42% revealing that the primigravida mothers had average knowledge regarding diet during pregnancy and highly significant association was found between knowledge scores when compared to their age, educational status, religion and previous source of information (p<0.05).
