Abstract

Introduction: Cervical cancer is one of the few preventable human cancers; its prevention is based on early diagnosis of precancerous lesions whose treatment generally makes the development of cancer almost impossible. Methods: A pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design was used to assess the effectiveness of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) package on knowledge regarding Early Detection and Prevention of Cervical cancer among 60 women attending Gynecology OPD at Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology by using non-probability convenient sampling. Results: The study revealed that the obtained 't' value was 20.79, which was statistically significant at 0.001 level and shows there is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test knowledge. Conclusion: The Information, Education and Communication package was effective in improving the knowledge of women regarding early detection and prevention of cervical cancer.
