Abstract

An organized, well-implemented discharge plan is the beginning of the successful follow-up of a NICU graduate. The parental anxiety may remain high for months because of concerns about the health of the neonate, and challenges in parenting. In our 35 bedded NICU in Kauvery Hospital, Trichy Cantonment, we practice continuous intensified newborn follow-up for all ‘NICU graduate’ babies as per the protocol framed by the Neonatologist and the NICU Team. This was initiated in the year 2020 and we remained in telephonic communication with the parents and caregivers on 3rd, 7th, 14th, 21th, and 28th days after discharge and addressed all their concerns and queries effectively. These queries were considered, and more enhanced and effective discharge counselling, and follow-up counselling, addressing all their queries were planned.
