Self Care Preparedness Among Latchkey Kids of Nurses

Abstract

Parents are the first teachers in every child's life. They play an important role in bringing their adult lives. In today's life, both the parents are working fulltime. The relationship with the working parents and children has both positive and negative impact. This study aimed to assess the self- care preparedness of latchkey kids of Nurses. A descriptive study was conducted among 67 Nurses who had children aged between 5 and 14 were selected by convenient sampling technique. The tools used for the data collection were, background Variables Performa of Latch Key Kids, background Variables Performa of Nurses with Latchkey Kids and Checklist to assess the Self-Care Preparedness of Latch Key Kids. The findings of the study revealed that, majority of the Latchkey Kids had adequate self-care preparedness (80.59%), and only 1.49% of them had inadequate self-care preparedness and the mean score of Self-care Preparedness of Latchkey Kids was 21.82 ± 3.97 with minimum and maximum score of 5 & 27 respectively (Mean % = 80.81%).
