Metabolic syndrome (MetS) in children is a serious health concern and if not given attention, may lead to the development of cardiovascular diseases and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in early adulthood. Obesity is directly linked to insulin resistance which is the origin of the development of MetS. The studies conducted in North India reports the prevalence as low as 1.5% to as high as 9.9%. There are pieces of evidences regarding the risk factors in children and if parents, teachers, children and media are informed, the problems can be tackled at its origin.
