Abstract

After independence, there has been tremendous increase in institutions of higher learning in all disciplines. But with the quantitative growth has it been able to attend to the core issue of quality. Internal self-evaluation and external review, conducted openly by independent specialists, if possible with international experts, are vital for enhancing quality. Uttar Pradesh is the state with the highest student enrollment, followed by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu and other top states include Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat, with 28 more colleges per laks population. The innovative technologies are playing vital role in development of higher education in India. Technology helps to overcome the barriers of time and space to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all while encouraging creativity, curiosity and collaboration. In this paper the new trends and innovative technologies in the field of higher education, like Artificial intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality, MOOC, Video Conferencing Software & new digital initiatives like Swayam and Swayam Prabha, National Educational Depository, National Digital Library, E-Shodh Sindhu, E-Vidwan, Sakshat Portal and different types of scholarships/fellowships are being discussed. The paper is also trying to highlight the efforts done by Uttar Pradesh in this direction.
